Zermatt in a very fancy high village in the Swiss Alps close to the Italian border – you can actually get a ski lift between the two countries ! It is a high cost town but we chose to go there as it is the start of the Glacier Express Train route and there is a youth hostel.
Zermatt is a car free town, more about this later. After settling in we walked downhill along strange paths and roads to the village to buy a very expensive meal. I am sure there were cheaper places, but difficult to find when new to the town.
