YMCA hostel in Bergen

We arrived in Bergan in the late afternoon on the train from Oslo. Without too much difficulty we navigated ourselves to the Bergen YMCA hostel. The hostel is close to the harbour in the old area.  Our room was on the fourth floor so lots of stair climbing.  The window was in the roof and we could look up at the late sun, the birds and the rooves. There are no YHA hostels in Bergen, and little by the way of cheaper accommodation.  This hostel is rather functional and a bit low on charm but the people are friendly, the rooms clean and the facilities basic.  When you step out the big front door you are in the city, next to pavement cafes (opens at 11am) and cobbled squares. This is what we want !

We went out to the harbour, less than 5 minutes walk, and had a rather expensive fish meal, then off to bed while the sun was still shining bright.  The next day we found a shop so our meal was much more simple !

We enjoyed our stay at the hostel. Mixed people, but clean and friendly and the location was perfect.
