We took a well formed downhill path to Grimmelwold, a small village nearby, also on a ledge. We admired the flowers, saw goats, sheep, cows and cats. For those who do not wish to walk there is a cable bus to take, part of a transport network in the area.
Grimmelwold is a traditional summer alpine village, in the past the farmers stayed here in the summer tending their flocks, then they, and the flocks, moved down to the valleys in winter. We were reminded of the story of Heidi and her Grandfather.
It was good to read the information signs to learn more about the structures, cost and longevity of the avalanche and snow management construction on the high slopes.
From Grimmelwold we took the cable car down to the bottom of the valley There were many waterfalls following the damp weather. We stopped to have coffee/hot choc and locally made cake while we watched the paragliders and the tourists. We continued walked along the flat glacial cut valley floor to Lauterbrunnen, where we caught the cable-bus back up the cliffs, followed by the rickety rail car to Murren. A great loop for a days walk.
This valley was formed by a glacier so both sides are vertical rock cliffs, while the floor is nearly flat. Murren is at the top of the cliffs, right on the edge, quite scary.
And to finish some of the flowers spotted. Such a contrast the huge stark cliffs and the delicate bright blooms
