St Marks Basilica Tour -outside

Started early to walk to the Vatican City for an 8am meeting.  Met our guide and set off to join the queues and into the Basilica of St Marks.  After a bit of a talk we went up the lift and then up 395 steps  up to the top of the dome.  Very tiring and quite perturbing as walking between walls curved and leaning inwards.  After lots of steps we were rewarded with great views of the city.  Even now, no buildings are allowed to be taller than here !.  Next inside to admire the structure and art, and learnt all about the history.  Next into the crypt and off for food.

So starting with the outside, definitely good idea to get there early, even if not going inside as the views can be hindered by the people. At least there is no one selling trash.
