This was in 2004, on the tail-end of a great trip around South Africa. We thought that Mozambique would have got over its civil war 20 years ago and got rid of the ideals that had crippled the country, and it was worth a look. It is a vast country, and the Governmnt in Maputo has a very tenuous hold on the country up North. Note how far 150km on the scale bar takes you!
Mozambique was a Portuguese colony until 1975, two year after independence a civil war started and ran until 1982. First elections were held in 1994.
The photos have been used in a slideshow, so there are two commentaries in many places!
We flew from Cape Town to Johannesburg, then picked up a hire car and drove to the border at Komatipoort.
