Innsbruck to Villabassa/Niederdorf in Italy by train

Leaving Innsbruck

First a taxi to the station, lazy and bags heavy ! Our first train took us up the Brenner Pass, one of the oldest passes through the Alps and into Italy.   The next train ran down the Alps on the Italian side often next to massive road construction.  Motorway on stilts.

Our route

  • Innsbruck to Brenna
  • Brenna to Fortezza
  • Fortezza to Villabassa
Our route

Into Italy – suddenly noisier and messier.

Motorway on poles
What a road !

Slightly worrying journey as not sure if on the right train, but we were.  We arrived at Villabassa/Niederdorf on time and took a short walk to Hotel Rose.
