Namibia in two weeks in 2002

We visited Namibia in 2002 as an addition to a trip to South Africa, so we started with a flight from Cape Town to Windhoek, stayed for one night at the Safari Hotel in Windhoek and joined the tour in the evening.  Namibia is large and lowly populated country.  The sights are far apart and linked with long, often gravel roads.  Although the roads are of a good quality it is not an easy country for a self-drive trip.  The trouble for us is that the tours visiting the country tend to mostly be higher cost, more luxurious with the occasional very low cost overland truck.  We choice to travel with a small group in a small truck which tends to spend longer at destinations (Karibu, but they are no longer operational) After breakfast we stopped for a quick shopping  Also it is catered, very important to us as I don’t want to spend my evenings cooking and cleaning.  To give us good coverage of the areas of Namibia we visited we joined a 14 day tour starting and ending at Windhoek

Namibia tourist policy seems to be moving towards high cost-low impact, making it harder for the middle group (not too expensive, but don’t want to do an overland truck or self-drive)
