Bridges of Venice

Venice is all about bridges (and canals and buildings) and if you have to walk anywhere carrying your luggage you will know all about the bridges. They ALL have steps up and steps down – it is the nature of Venician Bridges.

There are 435 bridges and only 4 of these cross the Grand Canal. All are pedestrian only. The oldest bridges where constructed in about 1500 while the newest in 2008.

Here are a collection of different style bridges that we saw.

Treble arch bridge in a residential area
This is a private bridge, goes straight into a house
One of the four bridges across the Grand Canal
The famous Rialto Bridge. It is much bigger than expected
Small canal with small bridges

We found the bridges fascinating.
