A walk through Goteborg, Sweden

After a comfy night we set off walking, with a map and advice from reception, looking for a breakfast spot.  Surprised how few ‘coffee on the pavement’ places there were.  Found none open this early.  After an interesting walk we found a pleasant bakery where we had coffee, hot chocolate, bread and pastry on a busy square.  We asked the lady for a mix and we got an interesting collection of pastries which we sat and enjoyed while watching the locals commuting with bikes, busses, train and trams, walking and even running.

We then walked around town a bit, looking at the buildings, the waterways and gardens.

We also found the last remnants of the city walls and walked up to look at the view.  Interesting how some of the old features are just incorporated within the newer.

Goteborg – we thought this was a more pleasant place than Stockholm, it has a smaller city centre and a more pleasant atmosphere.

Food – later we wandered why the Scandinavians are rarely over weight.  We think that it is partly due to the fact that they walk and ride so much.  There is a culture of walking and riding.  Also chatted to some Norwegian girls about nowhere to get a breakfast and they said they eat breakfast at home, out for lunch. Bikes are for hire everywhere, and I have seen empty bike stands where all the bikes are in use.  You do not need to take the bike back to the same place either so can do a one way trip.
