A visit to the Alpine Zoo in Innsbruck

We are not too fond of zoos, but were interested to see some of the alpine animals. There are many more animals than I have pictures. Many avairies, a whole section on domestic alpine farm animals and all the smaller mammals. Good fish tanks and amphibians, also lizards and snakes.

The zoo is on the slopes above the city.  Interesting as it requires lots of uphill walking but means the exhibits area displayed on a slope and it improved the overall viewing.  Some good fish, reptile and amphibians.  Saw wolves and lynx and an interesting collection of farm animals.

Turtles
Green fishes, freshwater camouflage
Even snails
A fine lynx in a large forested enclosure
Wolves resting, also in a very large enclosure with mature vegetation

Lunch at the zoo cafe was good
  • The goods, the bads and the Uglies
    • Good quality enclosures
    • Nice on the slope can see from a variety of angles
    • Good cafe
    • Enjoyable walk through
    • Not as many alpine animals as we expected
    • A lot of construction work going on
