Journey from Etosher to Palmwag

We traveled south from Etosher to Outjo then West to the Otjitotongnwe Cheetah Farm.  Here cheetahs that are captured on farms when harassing animals are held until they are relocated to safer areas. [C23-008]

Otjitotongnwe Cheetah Farm to Palmwag

We left the Cheetah Farm and travelled west through Damaraland and over the Grootberg Pass to Palmwag.

Palmwag on the edge of the desert

Palmwag is in the edge of the desert and considered one of the best place to view the desert elephants.

Wikipedia

Palmwag is a nature reserve in northern Namibia. It is located in the Kunene region, in northwestern Damaraland, halfway between Swakopmund and the Etosha National Park. It covers an area of 400,000 hectars. Wildlife in Palmwag include African leopards, Katanga lions, Namibian cheetahs, mountain zebras, Angolan giraffes, springboks, kudus, and desert elephants. The reserve also has the largest population of south-western black rhinos in Africa; a local organization called Save the Rhino Trust protects them”

Palmwag is on the edge of the Namib Desert.  It has a small water source and considered one of the few places you can view the Desert Elephants.  We were very lucky as a small group had come in for a drink just as we arrived, and they had not been seen for a long time.

There is a lodge and camping here.  We camped and really enjoyed the full moon and the pleasant surroundings.
