Singapore is a harbour city – so we took a tour on the water. In a amphibious vehicle. We loaded onto this strange contraption and set off on 4 large wheels through the city. We had a driver and a talking tour guide, not prerecorded.
When we got to the shore and we just drove into the water. The driver changed to a small boat motor and we chug along the coast. The water is fresh as they have dammed the sea out and turned it into a freshwater reservoir. They said it was the drinking water for the city !
We then had a tour showing some of the marvels of Singapore, from the seaward side. Many times the Marina Sands Hotel was pointed out. Really weird looking, three asymmetrical towers and a surfboard on top.
Then we saw this strange building reminiscent of an armadillo and one shaped like a lotus flower. The MERLION is quite cute, sitting there on the waterfront spouting water. Half lion and half mermaid.
The other newish development was the Gardens in the Bay. Some real plants, some areas appear to be man made plants, some greenhouses and some open areas. We did not get a chance to see this attraction close up and I gather it is free to walk in the gardens but you pay for the greenhouses shaped like slugs.
We also saw a floating soccer stadium, a few people enjoying kayaking and enjoyed an interesting commentary.
Although a little expensive, a nice tour to do once, but not if on a very tight budget
