Singapore 2016 – twice
The flight from Sydney to Europe is far too long to do in one go for us, and why bother when you can have a pleasant stop over in Singapore. We flew first from Sydney to Singapore, spent an night and day there, then caught the flight to Copenhagen. By doing this we arrive in Europe only half-witted rather than wit-less. On the return we did the same, having a good nights sleep in an air-conditioned hotel in Singapore before the flight back to Sydney.
We took a Singapore airlines flight to Singapore. We have not traveled with this airline for about 20 years and felt that they did not live up to their reputation. Aby and Dee, although booked together, where allocated seats in different rows. And without a single free seat on the plane this could not be fixed. Eventually we made a plan with another couple who had been separated as well. The food was good and the hostesses pleasant. I have even included a picture of the meal – this is a lunch. On later Singapore airlines flights the meals were well below expected standard.
We had booked a Singapore Airline Stopover Package – For $4. That is four dollars. For this we got a transfer to the hotel, hotel room for the night and entrance to a few activities and a ticket for the Hop-on-bus. This was a promotional offer, but even when not a promotion still pretty good value at $90 for two people.
We arrive at Changi Airport, all clean and shiny, picked up our passes and got delivered to our hotel. Aby’s very accurate description of Singapore once you are out of the air-conditioned building is that it is CHEWEY. So hot, so humid and so many smells.
Opinion of Singapore.
Really a good idea to take a stopover and have a good sleep in a real bed. It is an interesting place, very artificial in places, highly managed, but also very pleasant. It is impressive to visit a city when ones knows that 60 years ago there was very little here. On the downside, it is very hot and humid, and thus a bit exhausting, shopping is the only cool thing to do
