After a leisurely breakfast we took the cable-bus down the hill to Bernina Diavolezza station. With help we bought tickets from the machine to Cavaglia. Climbed on at the little station and enjoyed riding through the snow up to the top of the Bernina Pass. We remembered the last time we went this way with meadows, cows and flowers. See here. Part way down the other side we got off at Cavaglia at a ‘request stop’. Snow at the station and amassed how different the meadows looks. No grass, no flowers and no cows. Where have the cows gone ?
We walked the long route – a wavy loop taking about 2 hours. We struggled a bit with the slippery ice and snow and mush but really enjoyed the explore. Lovely views, though not as clear as last time. Interesting vegetation, mostly aromatic, small conifers with bright green leaves. Most of the potholes had snow in them, but no water.
