Denmark and Copenhagen, short, sweet and twice

When travelling to Europe or anywhere, you just cannot go to every place, there is not enough time.  And we do want to see more of a place than the airport or stations.  Some places need to be sacrificed and we had to sacrifice Copenhagen.  The first reason was time, and we wished to spend longer at other places.  The second was the youth hostel – it was not conveniently located, it was expensive – very and the web page was ghastly, the pictures where ghastly….. !!

Our first visit

Copenhagen station

We landed at Copenhagen airport early in the morning and wandered out with hardly any drama.  We missed all the banks and were out the airport before we realised that that was it ! We walked under the airport to find the station caught a train the travelled northeast, under the sea to Sweden.  An undersea tunnel !  We then popped up onto an artificial island and continued on a big bridge.  We are now in Sweden.  This is a grand train and car route, between two countries involving a tunnel, an island and a bridge.  A lot of politics.

Our second visit.

Serious bike parking

After visiting Norway and Sweden we briefly returned to Copenhagen.  We stopped here for a couple of hours between trains.  And I fear our impression was not good.  The station was grubby, there was nowhere to sit while waiting for a train and all the eating places were full.  Not enough facilities for the travellers.  We took a small walk into town and were surprised at the lack of anything.  We were impressed with the massive multi-storey bike park !

I am sure that Denmark and Copenhagen have a lot to offer, but our two short visits we did not feel that we were missing a lot.

Sorry !

Next – Sweden is a shock, introduction
