Picked up in bright sunshine for our kayaking trip. Given dry suits,
booties, life jackets, paddle, and wandered over to the water for the
kayaks. Bit unnerving getting pushed into the water, momentum all
wrong and the waves coming makes the kayak tip quite dangerously.
We paddled to the other side of the fjord, with a break in the middle for view-looking and chilling out as a raft. Inspected the old abandoned coal mine, a pile of houses of which only a couple are inhabited generally by hermits- and had lunch, which consists of dry meal packs and the contents of a thermos. Svalbard culture: hot water with the locally made cloudberry concentrate, its like hot ribena and divine when you’re doing anything in the cold.
