Our first day in Bergen – The day started with lovely weather and it got better. We walked to the main area looking for a breakfast café – seems not to exist, so a lovely breakfast at a local bakery.
Next a loop on the hop-on-bus. Informative and travelled a fair distance, but only covered the harbour and the main tourist areas. The local company is cheaper that the franchise, and covers the same route.
Interesting things seen, one was a monument to all the witches who had been burnt, and a statue of Ibsen (I think). In places the cobbles are like an artwork.
We drove through the harbour area and was surprised at the variety of ships, all catering for a different type of weather and coastal situations.
Hop-on busses vary in value, depends on the city and also the method they run, a continuous loop or try and run to a time table. This one was great, in part as we were completely new to the city and had no idea on where to go as well as really appreciated the informative and interesting commentary.
