Review of our trip to Mozambique in 2004

Fascinating to visit a country almost in an anarchy situations, but oh so stressful.  I would like to go back and see how it has progressed, but from reading a bit it seems like a place where you fly or drive to a destination, like a beach resort, and that is where you stay.  No wandering up and down the country.

  • Pros
    • Very interesting
    • Interesting to see how people are recovering
    • The people where friendly and helpful
    • Lovely beaches
  • Cons
    • Depressing to see how bad things are for people in a country that is agriculturally wealthy
    • The roads, the whole drive is stressful.  Never know how bad a pothole will be.
    • Strong language barrier, the ‘official’ language is Portuguese (in a country which threw out the Portuguese) little English is spoken.
    • Accommodation not easy to find
    • Often unsure if the accommodation is ‘safe’
    • Very little information to read beforehand.
